Summary/Objective
The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted to the area employed.
The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care.
The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.

Assessment: the registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation.

Diagnosis: the registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses or issues.

Outcomes Identification: the registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation.
D.
Planning: the registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.

Implementation: the registered nurse implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.

Knows and conforms to the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas.
Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed, nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient, making nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the strategy of care, developing a plan of care based on the assessment and nursing diagnosis, implementing nursing care, and evaluating the patient's responses to nursing interventions.

Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel that take into consideration patient safety and that are commensurate with the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the person to whom the assignments are made in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
Implement measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others and knows the rationale for and the effects of medications and treatments and shall correctly administer the same.
Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the nurse makes the decision not to administer the medication or treatment.
Institute appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
Required Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
No experience required
Required License/Certifications
Current RN license in the State of Texas
BLS certification
Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire
