*_ *DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* *Essential Job Functions:* Supervises, coordinates, and performs highly complex professional accounting services using standardized methods and procedures to perform financial analysis and budgetary functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and County policies.
Participates in all areas of accounts payable, payroll, grants, budget, and audits of financial records for all departments within the county.
Oversees and participates in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Statement for Jefferson County and the annual budget.
Oversees audit and preparation of 1099, W-2, and 1095C forms.
Reviews quarterly payroll returns; provides oversight and assistance to department managers; responds to requests for information from the general public and other departments, and agencies.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

*JOB REQUIREMENTS* *Education & Experience:* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred; at least 5 years of knowledge of governmental accounting, payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting and at least 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience.
*Specialized Requirements:* Valid Texas Driver’s License *Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:* _*Knowledge of:*_ Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Governmental Accounting practices; of computer systems and standardized financial/accounting software.
Skill in entering and reconciling financial data and completing financial reports; and in reviewing accounting systems and processes, and recommending improvements.
Ability to analyze, calculate, consolidate, reconcile, and interpret accounting data and identify errors; techniques of financial analysis; AS400 system and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
_*Skill in: *_performing special projects, financial analysis of county operations and functions; governmental accounting, auditing, budgeting, and financial reporting; utilizing financial systems and equipment, including calculators, computers and spreadsheets (*extensive knowledge of Excel).
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact and cooperate with co-workers and other departments.
* *WORK SITUATIONS/DEMANDS/EFFORT:* Work requires organizing; prioritizing; *accuracy*; *attention to detail; *working alone and as part of a group; flexibility in order to perform and coordinate a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; meeting frequent deadlines in a high volume environment; working in a sometimes stressful environment; occasional irregular hours and overtime; occasional out-of-tow travel to attend professional seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.
